Style:
Sharon Montrose is best known for her photography of animals. Since she adopted her first dog, she loved taking pictures of animals. Each of her photos are telling a story about the animals. She likes to take the photos of the dogs outside. Some of them she is taking in the backyard of the owner of the dogs or at the beach. She is also taking pictures in her studio where the background is just a white wall, so that the focus is only on the animals.

Philosophy:
Sharon focus is animal photography. She started with wedding pictures, but after a while she lost her love for photography by doing so. After she adopted her first dog she started taking pictures of him and suddenly her love for photography came back. She said she needed a connection to her subjects and she had a connection with the animals. She said once «I don't direct the animals, they direct me.» so I think she's trying to say with her photographs, that the animals have their own story and you just have to take a closer look to see it.

Influences:
I think her photography has something to do with wildness and freedom. When I look at her photos I can see the story of the animals and I think that is
fascinating. She showed me that you need a lot of patience, when you want to get a good shot of an animal. She also taught me you don't necessary need a special background, when the photo is strong enough. I know now if I wanna take a picture of an animal then I have to put more effort in my photography.

Compare and Contrast:
The difference between my photos and the photos of Sharon are the dogs. On her three photos you see each time a different dog, but I took the photos all of my dog. The couch isn't the same and has a different color than mine. Also the backgrounds aren't the same. It was hard to get my dog in a similar position, because she doesn't really likes it when someone takes a photo of her. The light is also different, her pictures are brighter than mine.

Personal Artist Statement:
I like the picture «sleepy dog» the most. The dogs have a similar facial expression. They both look like they are tired and a little bored. Each evening the dog of my host family goes in the music room, where this couch is standing. Instead of sleeping in a dog basket she sleeps on that couch. So I waited until she went to her bed to take this photo of her. She is an old lady and sleeps a lot and in this picture you can see that she is tired, but to me she also looks a little bored.
